Grammy Award-Winning Mark Blackwood

Few names in Gospel music carry the history, influence, and unmistakable legacy of Blackwood.

 

For generations, the Blackwood name has been woven into the very fabric of American Gospel music—a story built on extraordinary music, unwavering faith, family heritage, perseverance, and a commitment to carrying the message of Jesus Christ around the world.

That legendary legacy faced one of its darkest moments with the tragic loss of R.W. Blackwood and Bill Lyles. Many believed the tragedy might bring the Blackwood Brothers’ incredible journey to an end—but the Blackwood story was far from over.

 

Yet faith prevailed, and it became a turning point. With renewed hope and unwavering belief in their mission, R.W.’s younger brother, Cecil Blackwood, stepped forward to carry on the family’s calling to continue the Blackwood Brothers Quartet.  

 

Then, in 1986, another chapter began when Cecil’s son, Mark Blackwood, became the group’s lead singer. Since then, Mark has carried the Blackwood legacy forward by the leading the Blackwood Quartet to new frontiers!  Under Mark’s leadership, the quartet has continued to share the message of Christ across the nation, blending tradition with fresh energy while honoring the unmistakable Blackwood sound. Throughout their remarkable journey, The Blackwood Quartet has shared the stage with music icons such as Willie Nelson, Larry Gatlin, and many other influential performers. These experiences have shaped Mark’s heart for ministry and strengthened his desire to continue sharing the music he has loved all his life. 

 

His musical journey has taken him to some of the most iconic venues in the country—including The Grand Ole Opry, the Ryman Auditorium, Farm Aid, and the National Quartet Convention—as well as international stages in England, Belgium, Canada, Russia, and Finland. 

 

Mark Blackwood has taken the music, message, and legendary Blackwood name around the world.

Yet for Mark, the greatest honor has never been the Grammy Awards, the famous stages, the legendary artists he has performed alongside, or seeing the Blackwood name on a marquee.

 

It is the opportunity to stand before an audience and share the message that has remained at the heart of the Blackwood family for generations:
